Iran Limited GMail, Yahoo, and Hotmail Usage


Iran's Telecommunications Ministry began to restrict the use of electronic messages (email) from foreign service in corporate banking, insurance, and mobile operators. The government wants the company to use Iran's Mail, a local email service that have addresses domains ending with .ir (dot IR).



Not only employees, restrictions on the use of foreign mail applies to the customers of the company engaged in three industry sectors. Government agencies and universities must also use the email address from domain .ir.

The Iranian government is not directly banned GMail, Yahoo and Hotmail. Reported by the AFP on Tuesday (5/15/2012), this step is part of government efforts to secure and monitor the communications of their citizens, by cutting off internet connection to foreigners and global email service providers.

Yahoo! CEO officially resigns


Once rumored to resign, Scott Thompson finally decided to officially resigned as CEO of Yahoo! on Sunday (5/13/2012). As reported by Reuters, Thompson resign from the position that he held for four months because of controversy about his education record.


The official statement from Yahoo! said that Thompson did not have a prove that he have college degree in Computer Science, although the title is listed in his official resume. For temporary, the position Thompson will be replaced by Ross Levinsohn, head of Yahoo! Global Media.

As reported, last week, Yahoo! formed a committee to track the records of history education in Thompson's curriculum vitae.

AOL Sells 800 Patents to Survive

AOL (America Online Inc.) is global internet service provider company based in New York that are quite popular with their AIM instant message service. Currently AOL is struggling to maintain its existence after its sales shrink in recent years. AOL tried to get a new source income. According to sources from Bloomberg, AOL hired Evercore company to find a buyer or licensee for more than 800 patents owned by AOL.

Since 2009, AOL apart from giant content company, Time Warner. The web company has seen revenue drop by 29 percent. The decrease is presumably due to lower revenues at AOL dial-up service, reportedly, AOL dial-up services revenue fell 18 percent.

Facebook Ready to Counterattack Yahoo

Feud between Yahoo and Facebook related allegations of patent infringement seems to be more heated. Moreover, the largest social networking site that was ready to counterattack. Previously, Yahoo dragged Facebook to court on 10 charges of patent rights that are violated. However, Mark Zuckrberg claimed have enough evidence to confront the allegations.

According to the GigaOM technology site sources quoted on Wednesday (3/14/2012), Facebook has all the rights of the patent that claims by Yahoo. Yahoo was previously asked for payment for patent licenses. Of a lot of companies that agreed to pay, just Facebook that refuse. This is what makes Yahoo furious, and bring an action against that biggest social network website in the world.
