Faceporn beat Facebook in Court


Facebook declared defeated in his attempt to sue social network with pornography content that have similar names, Faceporn. Since 2010, Facebook has been trying to buy the domain Faceporn. This is done to secure the search results of "Facebook". Last time, Facebook already purchased and patented various domains with keyword "Face" and "Book". Until now, Facebook has 10 domains with that two keywords, and 17 domains that are still in pending ratification.



Well, for Faceporn, Facebook took legal steps to acquire that adult social network domain. However, last week, U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey S. White stated, Facebook lost the lawsuit. Besides failed to get Faceporn domain ownership, Facebook is also obliged to pay some money to Faceporn to replace the cost to pay lawyers and legal costs. Facebook lawsuit was rejected because of lack of personal jurisdiction.

Facebook was sued US $ 15 billion


Facebook, social networking site that just release IPO last Friday (5/18/2012) yesterday, faced lawsuits worth 15 billion U.S. dollars  in federal court.


As reported by Bloomberg, in a joint indictment, a number of the account owner claims that Facebook social networking site has violated their privacy by tracking Internet usage by recording the activity of cookies, even after logout.

Class-action demands was filed to the Federal Court of San Jose, along with 21 other charges of privacy violations. The last case was filed on behalf of citizens of the United States that create Facebok account between May 2010 until September 2011.

Women More likely to be addicted to Facebook


A recent study found that women are more likely to become addicted to Facebook than men. The findings are published in Psychological Reports journal. In the research, the psychologist from University of Bergen in Norway involving 423 students to observe signs of addictive behavior in how they use Facebook. Researchers used a measurement tool called "Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale", to measure how addicted each participant to Facebok, ranging from one (very rarely) to five (very often).

In the scoring method, each participant is also asked to comment about their feelings related to the urge to use Facebook, failure to restrict to use Facebook and and their feelings when they can not access Facebook.

Inspired by Steve Jobs, Facebook Facilitate Organ Donor

Facebook social networking create new features that facilitate users who want to donate their organs. This move is an initiative of Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who was inspired by Steve Jobs. Later, Organ Donor features will be added in user profile pages on Facebook. User can click Life Event on profile page, then click Health and Wellness, then Organ Donors option will appear.



Users can write what organ, they want to donor, location of residency and other information, such as blood type. Information can also be distributed on Facebook timeline.

"We think that everyone really can help spread awareness about organ donation and participate in it. This could be a big part to help resolve the crisis out there," said Zuckerberg.

Microsoft Will Sell Bing to Facebook?

Facebook is aggressively buying patent, after Instagram and AOL patent , Facebook reportedly being persuade to buy Bing search engine from Microsoft. As quoted from Cnet, said there are some people in  Microsoft is trying to explore that possibility. However this is without the agreement of CEO Steve Ballmer.


This news was published at New York Times. The reason why this step must be done is to compete Google that so dominate recent years. So, it need a company that focus more on the internet. Facebook which has good relationship with Microsoft is considered as strong candidate to buy Bing.

But according to New York Times, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has rejected the plan. Facebook still wants to concentrate on its core business.

Friendster Change into Social Discovery and Gaming Platform

Friendster is not over yet. It's what we will see if we visit Friendster website recently. Friendster just redesigned its website. Friendster no longer compete with Facebook like before. Now, Friendster focus more on discovery and game.


"We want to offer unique experience to users, as well as combining search, finding content and social function in it," said Friendster in its official statement Wednesday (25/04/2012).

In December 2009, Friendster has changed ownership. It was sold to company called MOL Global, digital payment company based in Malaysia. Ganesh Kumar Bangah, MOL Group Chief Executive Officer said that as industry pioneer in social networking, Friendster actually have paved the way for the emergence of other networking sites.

Facebook Buy AOL Patents for $550 Million from Microsoft

Facebook just bought 650 patents and AOL applications from Microsoft for $ 550 million. This purchase is done just a few weeks after buying Instagram for $ 1 billion.


Previously, Microsoft had purchased AOL patent for $ 1 billion in cash. Microsoft today announced it has only 275 patents from AOL, as 650 patents and other applications was purchased by Facebook on Monday (04/23/2012) local time.

However, Microsoft also said it has a license agreement for those 650 patent.

"The agreement today with Microsoft showed how important this acquisition to Facebook. This is another significant step taken to build a portfolio of intellectual property to protect Facebook for long time," said Ted Ullyot, Facebook lawyers.

Pinterest, social network that carries concept of virtual pin board sharing grow significantly. The number of users and frequency of visits is growing everyday. Pinterest social networking has become the third most visited social media website in United States, still under Facebook and Twitter but was able to overtake Google's social networking (Google+). Instagram Originally Priced USD 2 Billion?

The acquisition of Instagram drained Facebook pockets for $ 1 billion. But it turns out, the transaction value has been offered by Mark Zuckerberg is not the original price. Instagram CEO, Kevin Systrom actually want $ 2 bilion for his application. However, after private negotiations, Zuckerberg Systrom persuaded lower price for Instagram. Facebook is trying to patent the three words : Book, Face, and Wall as their property. Thus Facebook seeks to protect those three words to be used by another party in the future.

"You can not use our copyrights or trademarks , including Facebook, logo, poke, book, face, and wall," as written on the agreement.

Previously Facebook also has patented at least 70 other trademarks, which are F, F8, Friendfeed, and Facebook Ads.
