Facebook is aggressively buying patent, after Instagram and AOL patent , Facebook reportedly being persuade to buy Bing search engine from Microsoft. As quoted from Cnet, said there are some people in Microsoft is trying to explore that possibility. However this is without the agreement of CEO Steve Ballmer.
This news was published at New York Times. The reason why this step must be done is to compete Google that so dominate recent years. So, it need a company that focus more on the internet. Facebook which has good relationship with Microsoft is considered as strong candidate to buy Bing.
But according to New York Times, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has rejected the plan. Facebook still wants to concentrate on its core business.
Moreover, Facebook is also preparing the sale of its shares (IPO). They're also busy with patent issue.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is still considered Bing as strategic asset. "Bing is a strategic asset for the company, that deliver business benefits to Microsoft," Ballmer said.
So far, Bing has not give profit for Microsoft. In latest quarterly report, Microsoft said Bing operating loss reached 300 million U.S. dollars.
However, operating loss was considered have improved compared to conditions prior quarter. The division also recorded 707 million dollar revenue.
