Toshiba cancel to Acquire Epilda Memory

Toshiba Corp. withdrew from tender sale of Japanese chip maker, Elpida Memory. Toshiba's withdrawal make company that bid Elpida remaining two foreign companies, including SK Hynix and Micron Technology.


Toshiba decided not to proceed to second stage of tender after the discussion deadlocked. Earlier this month, a source said that Toshiba exploring cooperation with SK Hynix to buy Elpida Memory, after it turned out that Toshiba offer is lower than Micron Technology offer.

For your information, Elpida is the world's third largest chip dynamic random access memory (DRAM) manufacturer company that conquer 12 % market share.

In first stage of the tender, Micron bid Elpida for 150 billion yen (U.S. $ 1.85 billion). Elpida went bankrupt after have debts of U.S. $ 5.6 billion.
