Microsoft made their own Social Networking, Socl

Microsoft quietly launched their own social networking site, Socl, Sunday (05/20/2012). The means of the name Socl come from "Social".  The address of the website is at So.cl. Microsoft social networking project has actually been leaking since the end of 2011, even all already known that it would be named Socl.


On the About of Socl website, its explained that social networking is an experimental research project for learning objectives developed by FUSE Labs from Microsoft. Socl combines social networking and search feature to help general public, especially students, to discover and share interesting web pages.

Search results data in Socl is powered by Bing search engine. In Socl, users can log in using Facebook or Windows Live account. Once you login to Socl, users will be faced with a variety of topics and proposals to invite friends to Socl.



There is couple of menu on the left of the screen, from post, profile, video parties, following and followers. Interesting features in Socl is video parties, which allows users to search, watch, and collect videos from other users.


Home icon button is located on the top left, flanked by Socl logo and search engine box. Similar to Facebook, Home menu in Socl will display the feed or the latest news from Socl users. Users can post and share web sites or other interesting content. Any posts that appear in the feed can be commented, shared and tagged.

There are some different in ways to respond to any post on Socl, the Riff. Microsoft explains, Riff is a new way to interact and improvise the content.

Activity notification can be seen in Socl by clicking the box next to the name and photo of the user who is located in the upper right of the screen. If there is notifications, the box will be colored orange.
