A recent study found that women are more likely to become addicted to Facebook than men. The findings are published in Psychological Reports journal. In the research, the psychologist from University of Bergen in Norway involving 423 students to observe signs of addictive behavior in how they use Facebook. Researchers used a measurement tool called "Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale", to measure how addicted each participant to Facebok, ranging from one (very rarely) to five (very often).
In the scoring method, each participant is also asked to comment about their feelings related to the urge to use Facebook, failure to restrict to use Facebook and and their feelings when they can not access Facebook.
The study results found that some participants showed signs of "Facebook addiction" similar to those who addicted with drug, alcohol and other chemicals. According to researchers, young students are more likely to depend on social networking sites like Facebook than older students. For genders, female students more likely to become addicted than male students.
The researcher added, people who suffer from social anxiety or insecurity are more likely to become loyal users of social networking sites. This is probably because they find it easier to distribute they feelings using technology than to communicate other people directly.
The study also found that people with extroverted personality type are more likely addicted to Facebook, while people who are well organized and ambitious tend to have less risk of using Facebook, except for the purpose of employment or building network.
