2011 years ago, Hewlett Packard (HP) had intended to sell their personal computer (PC) division. This because the division's performance continues to decline eroded of the trend of tablet. However, HP eventually cancel to sold their PC division.
Now, the division that responsible for HP desktop and laptop products to become their mainstay the compete the tablet dominance that lead by Apple with iPad and Samsung with Galaxy Tab.
This was disclosed by Dion Weisler, Senior Vice President, Printing and Personal Systems Group, HP Asia-Pacific in break-out session event HP Global Influencers 2012 that was held in Shanghai, China, on Wednesday (05/09/2012).
Dion said, Ultrabook will be able to answer the needs of users who want another product that is as flexible as tablet. Ultrabook has almost everything in tablet, which is thinner, lighter, and the battery can last for long time, and the main thing is it can be turned on / used instantly.
HP going all-out to push Ultrabook production to counter tablets that are loved by worldwide users. To flood the market with Ultrabook, after earlier released two Ultrabook products this year, HP today released four new models. They are HP Envy SpectreXT, HP Envy Ultrabook, HP Envy Sleekbook, and HP EliteBook Folio 9470m.
Ultrabook prices are still quite expensive than tablets, Dion claimed the price is still a weakness of this type of product.
However, he believes the price will go down steadily. Before waiting for prices to fall, HP has specific strategy by releasing HP Envy Sleekbook product. This product is similar to Ultrabook but the price is quite cheap.
HP Envy Sleekbook with 15.6-inch screen size and use AMD processors priced at $ 600. Whereas, 14-inch Envy Sleekbook that use Intel processor will be price $ 700.
With fairly cheap price, HP believes Sleekbook may tempt users who plan to buy tablet device. Although currently want to compete with tablet, HP also have a plan to enter tablet market when Windows 8 is already available on the market.
