Mozilla Thunderbird 11 is finally released

After some time ago Mozilla released their newest internet browser Firefox 11, Mozilla also released Thunderbird 11 today. Thunderbird is open source software that functions as an email client developed by Mozilla. Thunderbird is an email client software that is built using Gecko, the engine is also used by  Firefox browser to create the user interface display and HTML content display.

The same release schedule between Thunderbird and Firefox allow continuous development since both software use of the same components. Because of faster release cycle, the user can see a slight change in each Thunderbird update.

Mozilla says that it will discontinue support for Thunderbird 3.1.x version in April this year. Thunderbird version 11 brings significant changes in appearance, user interface is changed. The tabs moved to the top, these designs have been adopted by Firefox. However, Thunderbird does not like Firefox, the user can not move the tab navigation bar to the bottom.

Mike Conley of Mozilla explains the reasons for the tab positions removal. Removal of the tab allows each of content tabs show their own toolbar that will be more relevant.

This displacement tab is advantageous for Lightning projects that add calendar capabilities to Thunderbird. Mozilla's also simplify the display interface and integrate other communication tools to Thunderbird.

Mozilla itself has developed instant messaging support for Thunderbird. This feature allows users to chat via Thunderbird software. This feature will likely show up in Thunderbird 13. Mozilla Thunderbird is available for Windows operating systems, Linux and Mac OS X.
