Wikipedia have moved hosting. They moved from GoDaddy to MarkMonitor. This movement has been officially discussed for months. And on Friday, March 9, 2012, local time, Wikipedia has officially change its domain hosting.

During the process of moving hosting and domain, Wikipedia does not have significant problems. The process according to the procedure and does not cause problems on the site. Then what is the reason for Wikipedia to move its domain hosting from GoDaddy to MarkMonitor?

According to Wikipedia Foundation, GoDaddy is not suitable to meet the needs of their domain. Since December 2011, Wikipedia Foundation has been hunting new
hosting providers to replace Godaddy. Many rumor said that Wikipedia break up with GoDaddy because GoDaddy support SOPA PIPA.

It's not a secret anymore that Wikipedia is not agree with SOPA PIPA. When SOPA PIPA is just announced, they even closed their website for whole day on Black Out Day. After going through the research and assessment, the team finally decided MarkMonitor as the proper partner.

"We have been very impressed with MarkMonitor and we believe we have put the portfolio in the hands of competent domain provider," said Michelle Paulson, Legal Advisor of the Wikipedia Foundation.

MarkMonitor is a domain and hosting provider based in San Francisco, United States and has a myriad of experience in the domain traffic. Later, MarkMonitor will help Wikipedia Foundation to monitor all global domain and all sub domains worldwide. And even according to Wikipedia, MarkMonitor will provide additional security features in management of their domain.
